DERMA FILLERS

Derma Filler Treatments

Do you yearn for smooth skin, luscious lips, and a youthful appearance?  Some people are lucky enough to naturally have them, whereas others need a little help from derma fillers at HappyHormonesMD.

Four main structural components make up our face –  skin, fat, muscle, and bone.  As we age, we lose volume in these structures which gives the appearance of aging.  Over time, age-related bone loss in the face can lead to retraction of the jawline, decline and sharpening of the nose, and loss of high cheekbones.  The facial muscles also decrease in volume and lose their elasticity, and deflation and movement of facial fat further accentuate the signs of aging.   Finally, the skin stretches and loses its elasticity.  Add this with the loss of structure provided by fat, muscle, and bone, this leads to wrinkles, sagging skin, and other familiar signs of aging which many people try to avoid.

So, by having dermal fillers, with the use of an injectable treatment performed in a certified HappyHormonesMD office can help smooth out this lost volume and give you a more youthful appearance.

Let’s fill you in…

Dermal fillers are soft, gel-like substances that are injected under the skin.

They can even address other areas of concern such as dark circles under the eyes, lifting of cheekbones, giving volume to the lips, and also smoothing wrinkles on the hands.  We need to be clear on one thing; derma fillers aren’t the same as Botox and Dysport, which are neurotoxins and literally ‘freeze’ the skin muscles to iron out wrinkles, whereas fillers smooth out skin by filling in the wrinkles.   Dermal fillers are increasing in popularity because of their ability to add volume and decrease wrinkles with a single visit to your local HappyHormonesMD clinic.

Collagen used to be a commonly used filler, but most modern fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, use hyaluronic acid.  One of the most common elements used in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a naturally occurring substance found in our skin, including eyeballs, joints, and skin, and it plays an essential role in keeping skin hydrated and volumized.   HA fillers, depending on their specific chemical makeup, can last quite a while, from six months to much longer before being gradually absorbed by the body.

Hyaluronic acid is therefore responsible for giving your skin that plump, hydrated look because of its ability to store moisture.  It can be applied topically to moisturize, but serums and creams can’t restore the lost volume of skin – its plumpness, only hyaluronic acid via injections can.  They typically last for 3-6 months, depending on where you have the injection.  A functional filler is invisible and should be natural looking.  Having duck lips or a trout pout is not a good look.

The Wrinkle Wizards

It’s evident that every practitioner has different techniques, levels of experience, and philosophies, but make sure your practitioner listens to what you want and what your expectations are – don’t forget, it’s your face!

What’s also amazing is that you don’t have to wait until you are covered in wrinkles to have derma fillers.   People are going to have these fillers at younger and younger ages, male and female, as well as people who need help with facial correction.   So, you don’t have to wait until the first lines appear as they can be used as a form of prevention as well as correction.

As we get older, our bodies stop producing collagen and elastin, both of which are essential contributions to a youthful look.  Experts argue over when we start losing collagen, but it’s generally agreed that the age is around 25, which we all accept is pretty young, right?   Your collagen and elastin levels then start to decline at a rate of about 2% per year, and your body will have stopped producing it altogether by your late twenties.

Dermal fillers can be the answer you’ve been looking for if you’re finding the aging process is catching up with you fast!
