MICRO NEEDLING

Micro-needling

For many years fillers and laser treatments have led the way for plumper, fresher-looking skin, and now there’s another non-invasive way to achieve youthful, clear skin;  micro-needling.

Micro-needling – collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure that stimulates the body’s healing processes and produces collagen, during and after the process.   It isn’t limited to the face, as it can help with stretch marks, scar tissue, and the scars left by acne.  From about the age of about 28, our skin starts to age as the repair and rejuvenation mechanisms that naturally used to work well in our youth, begin to decline.  Micro-needling is, therefore, a skin rejuvenation treatment that naturally helps trigger collagen and elastin synthesis within our skin with maximum results and minimum downtime.   It’s safe for nearly all skin types, but an initial consultation with a HappyHormonesMD consultant can confirm this for you.

This is a treatment whereby a device with tiny needles is pushed or rolled over your face and neck area to create controlled punctures, which forces your skin into repair mode.  Needles can vary from 0.5 to 3.0mm, which is minute compared to an ordinary needle, so there’s no need to panic!

How does it work?

The needles create tiny holes in the skin, which in turn, stimulate collagen production and tighten the skin.  The electric current entering the skin also stimulates the creation of more collagen, which is essential for the tightening of your skin.  All sorts of factors lead to the deterioration of collagen, not just the aging process, but skin-effecting things, including sunbathing.

The treatment can be tailor-made to the specific needs of each patient and can result in a few hours of redness, mild swelling and erythema (red patches), and depending on your tolerance levels, these symptoms can last from one to 2 days.  It takes about four to six treatments every two weeks.  It takes less than an hour between numbing and needling, and the redness which follows the treatment can be easily covered with make-up and disappears quickly – very rarely lasting more than a day or two.

How Safe Is It Really?
Micro-needling is minimally invasive and requires no downtime and is considered really safe for those people who are in overall good health.   All and all, the verdict is that this is a safe and effective procedure to have.

Micro-needling is the creation of small micro-channels and injuries to your skin with acupuncture-size needles.  Your body will respond to these micro-injuries naturally by stimulating and producing collagen, which can treat fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, stretch marks, acne scars, and textural concerns.
